Celebrate Fourth of July in Ocean Shores: Fireworks, Fun, and Safety
Ocean Shores is gearing up for an exciting Fourth of July celebration, and we want you to be part of the fun! From stunning fireworks displays to beach bonfires, there’s something for everyone. Here’s everything you need to know to make the most of your Independence Day in Ocean Shores.
Fireworks Area and Hours
The designated area for fireworks is on the beach from the Damon Road approach to the Marine View Drive approach. Fireworks are not allowed within the city limits.
Fireworks Hours:
July 2 & 3: Noon - 11:00 PM
July 4: Noon - 11:59 PM
Important Fireworks Rules
To ensure everyone’s safety and preserve the beauty of our beach, please follow these guidelines:
Adhere to fire burn restrictions.
Keep at least 100 feet away from the dunes and do not aim fireworks towards them.
Fireworks are prohibited on the Dune Trail.
No fireworks on decks or balconies of hotels or residential properties.
Only legal fireworks are allowed; no bottle rocket-type fireworks.
According to OSMC 8.12.025 Fireworks—Restricted use, it is unlawful to use, discharge, ignite, or explode any fireworks within the city except on the beach between the Marine View Drive Beach Access and the Damon Beach Approach, a minimum of 100 feet west of the dunes.
Violations can result in citations ranging from $150 to over $1,000.
Beach Driving and Safety
Remember, the beach is a state highway, and all licensing, registration, and road rules apply as they do on city streets. The maximum speed limit is 25 mph, and even lower in crowded areas.
Beach Driving Tips:
Avoid driving in soft sand and salt water.
Plan your beach arrival early to secure a good spot, especially if you want to avoid the crowds later in the day.
Beach Fires
If you plan to have a beach fire, follow these rules:
Keep fires at least 100 feet from dunes.
Do not burn driftwood logs.
Completely extinguish fires with water.
Tides and Water Safety
Be aware of the tide changes to avoid having your vehicle or tent caught in the waves. Camping on the beach is illegal due to this danger. Additionally, there are no lifeguards or surf rescue on our beaches, so swim at your own risk.
Keeping Our Beaches Clean
To ensure our beaches remain clean and beautiful, especially after the festivities, the City of Ocean Shores Public Works Department has designated litter bag dump stations at each beach approach. Volunteers will hand out garbage bags on the 4th, and these stations will be emptied into dumpsters throughout the weekend.
Volunteer Cleanup:
July 5: Volunteers will meet at the Shilo beach approach at 8:00 AM for a cleanup effort.
Staffing and Safety
To help maintain order and safety, there will be additional staffing on the beach on the 4th:
Extra police units, including Ocean Shores Police Department staff.
Additional firefighters, including Ocean Shores Fire Department staff.
State Parks units.
Grays Harbor Auxiliary Volunteer Emergency Resource Team (AVERT) members.
Public Works employees managing litter control.
If you see unsafe activity in or around the dune grass, call 911. For non-emergencies, contact 360.533.8765.
